DOOM’s 2016 soundtrack began with an unexpected restriction: no guitars. In this GDC session, Mick Gordon explains the experiments that followed and why the brief eventually changed.
Gordon demonstrates a processing setup that sends simple tones through several chains of effects. He plays the results as he explains each production decision, then combines a guitar sound with a chainsaw sample from the original DOOM.
