Hi, I’m Alex, the curator behind @VideoArtGame and @memorycardfiles. The Memory Card is where I take a few gaming art picks and spend more time with the games behind them.
Sometimes a prototype changes what a game becomes. I want to follow those decisions back to the developers who made them, with more artwork to discover along the way and links to its creators.
Each Thursday, I’ll bring you a selection of gaming art and follow it into the games: the decisions that made them what they are. Issue #1 arrives on Thursday, 22 October 2026. Join for free.
The 2025 art shelf brings together 40 artists from my 2025 gaming art picks. Every work links back to its credited artist and the post where I shared it. Start with a game you love, then follow the artist.
Behind the games follows specific decisions from game development, such as Valve adding glass after Portal playtesters skipped the box-and-button lesson. The stories link to the developers’ own accounts, rather than presenting those published interviews as interviews I conducted.
I’d like to add artist interviews later. I’ll announce them when they’re ready; they aren’t part of the launch offering.
The artwork is credited beside the image. Development stories link back to the developers’ own accounts, so you can read further. Fan art is not a gameplay screenshot, and an old development update is not a current release announcement.
If you spot an attribution or factual mistake, reply to a newsletter or contact @VideoArtGame and @memorycardfiles with the source. I want the links to lead somewhere useful, especially to the artists themselves.
Possibly after the launch period. The price and exactly what’s included will be explained before any paid plan opens. Subscribing to the free newsletter won’t sign you up for a paid plan.
